Interactive visitor app for the Fuggerei, Augsburg — the world's oldest social housing, est. 1521

Interactive map + self-guided tourQuiz & storytelling, kids to adultsMultilingual anniversary concept

A concept app for the Fuggerei in Augsburg — the world’s oldest social housing complex, founded in 1521 — created with the Fugger Foundation for its 500th anniversary.

The challenge. Five hundred years of history is a lot to hand a visitor standing at a gate. The Fuggerei draws everyone from schoolchildren to historians, and a single tour can’t speak to all of them. The brief was to make the place explorable on its own terms — letting each visitor find their own depth and their own language — without turning a living community into a museum exhibit.

What we designed. An interactive map of the complex with a self-guided virtual tour. Storytelling and a quiz adapted across languages and age groups, so a child and an adult could each explore their own way. A multilingual concept built around the 500th-anniversary moment.

The outcome. A concept that reframes a 500-year-old institution as something you walk through and discover at your own pace — history made interactive, scaled to whoever is holding the phone.
